The Coalition for a Complete Community (CCC) at 730 Stanyan Street was formed to ensure a publicly accessible and community led planning process for the development of 100% affordable housing at the former McDonald’s site.
The CCC held a community meeting on December 11th, 2019 that touched on the CCC’s proposal for the final development of the site, which includes housing and services for youth, families with children, and seniors. The meeting especially highlighted the senior component of the community proposal because the city process to choose a developer has not included seniors as an expected population to be included in the affordable housing. A working group was formed at the meeting to address the need to include seniors in the final development.
The project manager from MOHCD, Jonathan Gagen, presented, stating that the non-profit developer will be picked by the end of 2019 (Editor’s note: as far as we know, this has not yet happened). Newly elected District 5 Supervisor Dean Preston spoke, emphasizing his support for a community process in the final development and his interest in having an interim use different from the current parking lot. Theresa Flandrich from Senior and Disability Action spoke about the need for deeply affordable housing for seniors, a population that is often left out of discussions surrounding housing.
There was strong community interest in the interim use of the site. Previously, the CCC had submitted a proposal to MOHCD in their Request for Proposals for interim use, but MOHCD decided to use the site as a parking lot and not go forward with any interim use proposal. Currently, MOHCD says the developer will be responsible for deciding interim use.
The CCC will hold a public meeting about interim use of the site on January 22nd, 2020 at the Park Branch Library (1833 Page St/Cole), beginning at 7:00 pm.
